What are your feelings/ thoughts/opinions about your group proposal/stance and feelings of Columbus Day?

My group and I agreed that instead of having a Columbus Day, it should be a Native Americans Day. Christopher Columbus was claimed to be much like a sinner. He was the reason millions of people lost their lives and everything he did, I wonder was it for him or for everyone else. On the the other hand, the Native Americans were more of kind hearted people and they were hard workers. The celebration really should be for them, they deserve it for the things that they had accomplished as well. Although from my opinion Columbus did something extravagant, he basically explored the world, which is a dangerous duty because he didn't know what to expect such as environment changes. I believe that he brought the attention to the new world which is why we are here today but he still committed brutal things, if these statements are really accurate but i wonder is there any proof. This is basically why I agree to the desicion my group and I made. It is always two sides of the story so I don't really know how everything went, I'am basing my opinion on the things that I have learned about Columbus and the Native Americans. Simultaneously, those  negative thoughts about Christopher Columbus can definitely be rumors. Another thing was that people have been celebrating Columbus Day for years so they mind as well keep it the way that it is, unless people agreed over the situation for a while, meaning for years and besides our opinion do not count because this is like a tradition and what more can we really do!

What does it say about a country that celebrates someone like Columbus?

Throughout my education, I really never heard things about people complaing about celebrating Christopher Columbus day until now. It's not like people actually celebrate Columbus Day, students just be excited that we have a day off , and that's our celebration. The question basically is that if it's necessary to have a day off to celebrate? I kind of agree and disagree about the celebration, thats a hard desicion to make becasue Columbus was somewhat a good person but he supposely did cruel things. Although the Vikings were the first to discover the new world, Christopher Columbus brought attention to the new world which I believe why we are here today. Any how from what I read, I learned that he was similar to Hilter which isn't good but I don't believe that he was that cruel. Everyone has their own opinion about this situation and I'm not to concerned about whether if the country should celebrate it or not because in the end it wouldn't be up to me whether I like it or not.
